What’s new? That’s the question on everyone’s lips every time Fashion Week rolls around, and we’ve got plenty of up-to-the-minute events on our radar, from a top model’s tasty new pop-up restaurant to a will-they-or-won’t-they hip-hop fashion collaboration. Plus, we’ve rounded up the most promising models, up-and-coming designers, and must-hear music moments from the upcoming shows.
The Elettra Complex
Hunger pangs shouldn't be a problem for Fashion Week attendees this season, as none other than Elettra Wiedemann is opening a pop-up restaurant for the week. Called Goodness Badness, the startup promises healthy and unhealthy treats in equal measure. Follow them on Twitter for updates; Prabal Gurung is already a fan.
The Hostesses With the Mostest
Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai don't hew too close to the fashion norm. After all, the Vena Cava designers favor Gowanus over the Garment District, clogs instead of high heels, and they like to sell off their odds and ends in online garage sales. So it makes sense that they'd be doing something a little different for Spring 2012. The duo is hosting a dinner at MPD restaurant where they'll show their spring line on a range of muses, from Tennessee Thomas to Hailey Gates. Oh, and we hear Buhai and Mayock will be showing their debut collection of handbags, too.
The Grade-School Grail
For the tweed-loving tween in your life, Ralph Lauren will be holding a Girls' fashion show on Wednesday before fashion week. The fall collection will be on display to an audience of mothers and daughters, along with a holiday preview.
The Milk Man
Another label that's making a play for the runway: Suno, the print-happy collection that's become a favorite of every girl whose favorite acronym is Roy G. Biv. Founder Max Osterweis and designer Erin Beatty will show at Milk Studios. Clear your Friday night.
The Beauty Queen
Dakota Fanning is an old hand at 18. The NYU freshman already starred in Marc Jacobs' Spring 2007 clothing ads, and is now the face of his Oh, Lola! perfume. The designer's Mercer Street boutique will fete the hot-pink juice's launch on Sunday, Sept. 11th, with Fanning herself on hand
